§ ¶Finish him!The printer nearest to my cubicle is out of order. Again. For anyone who has seen the movie Office Space (or works in an office) the agitation should be familiar.
But this time it's different. This time I think the printer has just given up. It can't stand the verbal abuse anymore, it just laid down and died. The guy from Facilities can't fix it the way he usually does, as the replacement parts don't do any good. Is this the end of the infamous printer? Will we get a shiny new one? The thought of that makes me want to 'help' the Facilities guy a bit in his decision. As he left the printer unattended in dispair for the moment, it is very tempting to make some adjustments of my own... No!.......... Must... Resist... Update: the printer is fixed. Damnit. § ¶Unions strike again!Don't try to send me any snailmail! The postal service has been on strike for over a week, no post is getting in or out of Dublin. I'm trying my best to get them back to work. § ¶StrikeAll personnel of Irish airports, busses and trains would be on strike today. That's what they announced earlier this week. They were convinced they should earn more money and were opposed to any upcoming reforms of mass transport structures in Ireland. They don't like change. The real motive for organizing a strike was that the busdrivers and baggage handlers would rather sleep than work on the day after St. Patrick's day. Luckily for my parents, who are flying to Dublin today, the union has come to their senses and cancelled the entire strike. All airports, busses and trains run 'normally', whatever that might mean. § ¶The Ghost and the DarknessA quote from the Ghost and the Darkness (movie with Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas):
A point the Irish are cheerfully proving in Saint Patrick's Festival. § ¶All systems are GoThe first Luas tram service opens to the public today! Only one of the two lines is running and even that's only running partially. But still, it runs and we should be very happy with that. I'll have to try it out later today, seeing is believing.
Update: actually I heard this news on the radio this morning, but i can't find a trace of it anywhere on the internet. Was I dreaming? § ¶Three birthdays and a promotionSounds a bit like a Hugh Grant movie, doesn't it? It's all in a week's work at the Northern European team though. The average age of the team jumped up, due to Jasper on Tuesday, Jo on
Some other good news came from Arjen, who is now officially promoted to Senior Rep. a.k.a. Team Leader. This basically means that he is (at least partially) responsible for everything that happens in the team and can be blamed for anything that goes wrong. Every team needs someone like that. § ¶NOOOOOOOOO!!!I have to move to a different desk! In a different cubicle! I will no longer sit next to my beloved cubie Sandra! Ever! Now i have to sit with the Dutch team. Oh joy...
